Tree time at Appley Park

Celebrating greenery day

On a cold, dismal day we found a dry spot in Appley park to sit. A majestic oak sheltered us beneath its canopy, where we nibbled dates and crackers, all around were other trees sporting their new greenery, the trunk of the tree and the ground around its roots gave off a cosy warmth. We listened to the chimes of St. Cecilia's bells and wondered what occassion they were marking. Observed a starling feeding its young up above in the crook of a branch, and caught the magic of swallows dipping and diving overhead. We made our way back, careful not to tread on the newly opened purple orchids flowering in the grass. Back to pavements along Ryde Esplanade clouds of stocks scented the air in the park display, newly laid paving, the colour of golden sand gave the impression you were on the beach. Lime trees sported tender morsels of transluscent leaves, rolled fine as filo pastry sheets in palest green. Delicious greenery day.
