One million peace cranes

One million peace cranes 2012 project from Peace Routes

Last year the news over Christmas was full of war and suffering from around the world, the radio times was handy and I started to transform the pages into origami peace cranes. This year the story hasn't changed in the media, woe, war and suffering, the need seems even greater and the potential to transform the negative energy into something good even more necessary. So for 2012 the aim won't be to make one thousand peace cranes, it will be to make a million! Each one lovingly made from recycling old magazines and wrapping paper.

This year I'm appealing for donations of 1 pence per crane to help the good work of various chosen charities. Your name will go on the crane and on a sponser sheet, and feedback on how the projects progressing – and where the money's going. If you wish to know more please contact me.

Many thanks to everyone that has helped support the peace events held on the island this year. An especially joyful event was the peace party at the Unitarian Hall, where talents and friendship were shared in singing, dancing, music, activities and food. £50 was generously donated and has gone to the chosen charity MSF to continue its good work.
